Road to Emmaeus
Home activities:
- Take a hike each day with your child. Look at the budding spring around you and recall the rebirth of Pascha.
- Make a hiking stick and use it for your hikes. Decorate it to remind you of the road to Emmaeus.
- Puzzle and coloring page.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, help us to see you with us all the time. Amen.

Objectives:
- Children should be able to say “Ascension” and define it.
- Children should identify the characters in the icon and tell the story.
Possible Lesson Plan:
- Open with prayer. Remember especially Pascha and the Paschal hymns and greetings.

- Discuss the 3 stages of the life cycle of the butterfly:
- Crawl on floor like larva.
- Lie quietly on floor with eyes closed (cocoon)
- Fly around the room like a butterfly.
- Place the icon of the feast in a prominent location.
- Word Puzzle for older children.
- Read the story at bedtime each night.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, help me to be kind and gentle like the Butterfly.

Objectives:
- Children should be able to say the word “Pentecost” and know that this feast is the birthday of the Church.
- Children should know that the Holy Spirit descended on Pentecost.
- Children should be able to identify the characters in the icon and tell the story.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Objectives:
- Children should identify the Lord’s Prayer, or “Our Father”, as the prayer that Jesus taught His disciples.
- Children should memorize the Lord’s Prayer.

- Open with prayer. Use the Lord’s Prayer.

Pray the Lord’s Prayer each day. Work with your child to memorize it.
