Sermon on the Mount
Sermon on Mount
Home Activities (Note that this lesson should fall right around Christmas time):
- The light of the world: Look for sources of light all around. Say the evening prayers by candlelight only, explaining that Jesus is the light of the world, and we use candles in Church for light. Sing the song “This Little Light of Mine”.
- The rock: Take a walk and collect pretty rocks, putting them on display like a museum.
- Can you identify them? Paint a house and the verse on a rock for a doorstop.
- Salt of the earth: Make a meal with no salt one night!
- Puzzles and coloring page.
- With older children, work on memorizing the Beatitudes. Youngest students need only know the first one, “Blessed are the poor in spirit…”
- Celebrate the 12 Days of Christmas: maybe a small gift each day in the stocking, inviting people over for cookies, a cookie-decorating party, special ornaments to be added each day.
- Bake a special cake for Jesus’ birthday; invite your friends.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, let Your light shine in me to give light to all the world around me. Amen.
BEATITUDES MATCHING
Can you match the beginning with the end of these blessings:
Blessed are the meek for they shall be comforted
Blessed are the merciful for they shall see God
Blessed are those who are persecuted for they shall be called sons of God
for righteousness’ sake
Blessed are those who mourn for theirs is the kingdom of heaven
Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall obtain mercy
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for they shall inherit the earth
after righteousness
Blessed are the poor in spirit for they shall be filled
Blessed are the peacemakers
