Home Activities:

  • Water and care for the seeds planted in church.
  • Read the story at bedtime each night.                       

Prayer:  Dear Jesus, for abundance of  the fruits of the earth and for peaceful times, let us pray to the Lord. Lord have mercy.  Amen.

Objectives:

  1. Children should be able to identify Zaccheus as the short man who wanted to see Jesus.
  2. Children should know that Zaccheus’s life was changed by meeting Jesus.

  • Reread the story to your child.
  • Sing the song, complete with motions:

            Zaccheus was a wee little man and a wee little man was he.

            He climbed up in a sycamore tree for the Lord he wanted to see.

            And when the Savior passed him by, He looked up in the tree.

            And He said, “Zaccheus, you come down! For I’m going to your house today.

Publican and Pharisee

Objectives:

  1. Children should be able to say the words “publican” and “Pharisee” and know their meanings.
  2. Children should know whose prayers God listened to and why.

  • Practice the prayer of St. Ephraim in preparation for lent.
  • Practice the prostrations with your child.
  • Continue your weeks of preparation path with coloring the Publican and the Pharisee.

Objectives:

  1. Children should be able to tell the story of the Prodigal Son in their own words.
  2. Children should know that God forgives us even when we do something we shouldn’t.

  • Reread the story with your child.
  • Visit a farm (e.g. Clark Elioak Farm in Ellicott City) with pigs; see what they eat!
  • Various puzzle pages, appropriate for various ages.
  • Continue your Path of Preparation with the Prodigal Son and the pigs. 
  • Practice singing “I shall arise” – music included.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, Thank you for the love of our earthly fathers and our heavenly Father. Amen.

Objectives:

  1. Children should know that Jesus is coming again as judge.
  2. Children should be able to list some of the characteristics of goodness.

Home Activities:

  • Reread the story for your child.
  • Did your child come home from Church School with ways to be a sheep? Help facilitate.
  • Visit a petting zoo; compare and contrast sheep and goats.
  • Continue your Path of Preparation with the Last Judgment and also the sheep and goats. 

Prayer: Lord help me to be like a sheep and not a goat.
